This deal, initially agreed upon in July, is now facing formal suspension, as announced in Strasbourg. The BBC has reported this development, highlighting the rising tensions between the US and Europe, particularly in light of Donald Trump's pursuit of Greenland.

The US and Europe had reached a trade agreement in Scotland last July, but it required the European Parliament's approval to become official. However, following Trump's comments about Greenland, influential German MEP Manfred Weber declared that approval was not feasible at this time. Bernd Lange, the chair of the European Parliament's international trade committee, concurred, stating that suspending the deal was the only option.
Lange explained that the US's actions, including threatening the territorial integrity of an EU member state and using tariffs as a coercive tool, undermined the stability and predictability of EU-US trade relations. He emphasized that work on the two Turnberry legislative proposals must be suspended until the US shifts from a path of confrontation to one of cooperation.
